TSC is a leading partner in the European Commission funded project to create a European Reference Model for control room operator training and competence assessment.
The aim of the project is to develop a common framework for initial and ongoing training of a control room operator in the chemical and process industries. The target is to match this with existing national frameworks. For example, in the UK the proposed new framework exactly matches the NVQ level 3 standard, whilst in Germany it matches the German 'Chemikant' qualification to within 99%.
This ambitious project was funded at €750,000 under the EC Leonardo da Vinci scheme and involved 21 partners across 9 countries. The initial output is an agreed set of the work tasks undertaken by an operator, and to relate this to national standards in each country. A comprehensive and novel way of displaying these requirements in any of the partners languages, uses the Leonardo Wheel.
- An agreed list of all tasks required of an operator
- An agreed definition of the training/assessment required for each task.
- Valid for all Process Operators- Chemical/Oil &Gas/Pharmaceutical etc.
An additional goal of the project is the building up of a network of organisations that are actively involved with the education and training of operators for chemical process plants.
