Plant Design Optimisation

TSC has developed a core library of over 200 plant and process items. These have been subjected to several years of comparator analysis with real plant in many different situations, by clients such as BP, ExxonMobil, AMEC, Costain, and Fluor Daniel.

 

Each simulation model uses the design (then the actual) plant data – valve Cv/Cg specific characteristic equations and sweep times, pump head curves, pipe sizes and isometrics, compressor characteristics, heat exchanger characteristics, etc. together with the actual control algorithms and settings. The model is set to exactly reproduce the steady state conditions at a number of different condition points, each independently defined by a steady state design tool such as a Hysis calculation.

 

This ability to match several steady state conditions to within a negligible difference is used to verify the model against the plant design, and later against the actual as-built performance. Studies of the model dynamic performance in any number of operating conditions will determine the points of limiting or inefficient plant performance. Development of the model may then be used to optimise their occurrence.
