Blu CRYOBattery Project

Highview Power, the designer and developer of the Blu CRYOBattery Project, a proprietary cryogenic energy storage system commissioned TSC Simulation to produce a digital twin of their Liquified Air Energy Storage plant.

The project involved producing a 3D representation of the plant with a virtual plant walk around. A mathematical model integrates electrical, chemical processes, and control emulation to create a linked digital twin for plant monitoring.

The 3D simulation and modelling serve for verification, training, and showcasing the product for potential future investments.

CRYOBattery facilities will help the UK achieve its decarbonisation goals by supplying clean, reliable, and cost-efficient long duration energy storage and grid services.

The cryogenic energy system storage comprises of three main processes. Turns ambient air into liquid, stores the liquid in air tanks and, when needed, expands the air into gas which generates electricity.
