Model Description

This model consist of a four basic sections 

• Feed stock and pre-heat section 
• The reactor and regeneration section 
• The air blower and heater
• Plus, the required ancillaries such the torch oil and high-pressure steam used for both start-up and control of the reaction. 

It Includes a full integrated safety system, the operation of the FCCU can be investigated outside of its normal operational envelope with all resultant consequences of user interactions recorded and displayed in the interactive trends and event log system. 

Learning Areas

The model demonstrates the operation of a typical FCCU and how it reacts to changes in feed stock, operating conditions and how the correct application of various steam feeds can affect the reaction process.  

This section is the core element of a FCCU that defines the feed to the downstream process. Therefore, it is important to operate the reactor and regenerator under optimal conditions to feed downstream process and minimize waste. 

 The model is supplied with two starts. A steady state ‘Design’ start, useful for investigating control parameter changes on the process operation, and for monitoring operator response to unusual situations that can be as a consequence of plant operation or can be injected at specific times using the fault and scenario building package included with the model. 

 A second cold start with a complex but fully documented set of procedures can be followed to safely bring the plant up to a fully working state whilst simultaneously monitoring multiple interdependent process variables and negotiating the intricacies of safety systems and timing dependent operational windows.
